The Ministry of Commerce and Economy in U.A.E has recently made
an announcement in the local newspaper which was published on 11
February 2004, addressed to all registered trademark owners that their
trademarks should be renewed within the maturity date which is 10 years after
the registration or within 3 months succeeding the maturity date. The
Ministry has the right to cancel any trademark if it is not renewed with
accordance to the Rule No. 37 of the Federal Act for the year 1992. Moreover,
the announcement gives all trademark owners a grace period of 10 days
with effect from the date of announcement i.e., Wednesday, February 11,
2004. After the grace period is over, all trademarks not renewed
will be automatically cancelled from the register.
